The World Wide Web is taking over business. It's a sign of the times that your
business isn't considered serious any more unless you have your own domain name
(such as www.dello.com). A web site is becoming nearly as important as a well
designed business card.
The rate of domain name registrations has increased rapidly. In 1994, the first year
it was really the World Wide Web, only 24,000 domain names were registered;
four years later, 1.9 million new domain names were registered (source:
Network Solutions, Inc.) In fact, as of May, 1999, there were only about 3,000
English words that had not been used with a .com (out of over 200,000 available).
The possible web sites available with these words included such classics as
afreet.com and tarantara.com.
Maybe it's because there is a cost savings associated with using the Internet for
business. But whatever the reason, it's clear that the World Wide Web is here to
stay. A web site is the must-have marketing product of the coming millennium.
