Perhaps the largest change in the way we do business has been E-commerce.
Nowadays, if you want a book, you can just sit down in front of your computer,
visit Amazon.com, and read a large number of reviews (by other readers, not
professional critics) before you buy it and have it delivered tomorrow morning.
For a lot of us, that beats going to the corner bookstore.
Now you can do the same thing with cars, appliances, etc. In fact, online shop-
ping is growing faster than any other method--because it's easier and less expen-
sive for everyone.
Other business is being done over the Internet as well, and it is predicted to save
businesses that use it about $1,250,000,000,000 ($1.25 trillion) by 2002.
E-commerce is an add-on to a client's web site. Product information can
be published cost-effectively and rapidly. The key is to get the word out. List the
Web address on all printed matter. Use e-mail as a strategic sales tool.
The medium is interactive, so a client can browse only the things he/she is
interested in. This keeps the client at a high level of excitement. Boredom is a
consequence of wading through pages of information that a client is not interested
in. The Web allows a client to go directly to the product(s) and/or service(s) that
interest him/her.
Marketing campaigns can be delivered virtually instantaneously. There is a much
faster testing cycle time.
E-commerce information is always up-to-date. Electronic changes to prices, offers,
etc., can be made at will.
